In an interview with Fortune magazine, the new CEO of Porsche North America stated forecasts of 2027-2028 for when electrics and plug-ins will supplant internal combustion engine cars. Considering the very low price of gas, this seems optimistic. I believe the technology will be there, but will the market be? Internal combustion engine manufacturing and the associated infrastructure are incredibly entrenched, with major interests in maintaining the status quo. Even still, the car makers are investing heavily in electric car technology because if they are caught without valuable intellectual property (patents), they will get their lunch eaten by the other car manufacturers.
